My Chains are Gone

I heard a song yesterday that I have heard many times before, this time though it said something different to me. I have to share with my readers a new outlook. Please watch the video and then come back to me.

What a powerful message,

"My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace"

"My chains are gone", I have heard that for many years and only now, in this context did it hit home for me. I have had label (chains) put on me for a number of years, things like ADD, slow learner(if you knew me you would laugh at that, I'm not a slow learner I learn quite quickly and then get quite bored), among other things. After hearing that verse there is a Bible verse that I have read many times that now has a new meaning:

2 Corinthians 5:17:

17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

A new creation....What does that mean? You can't become "new" physically so how does this new creature thing work?

The "new creature" this verse talks about is spiritually reborn back to the relationship Adam had with God. Before Adam sinned he had a one on one relationship with God, after he sinned he was thrown from the Garden of Eden and he lost that one on one with God. Upon our acceptance of Christ we are restored back to the one on one relationship with God.

With that relationship comes the benefit of a new identity, before our relationship with God our identity was wrapped up in what we do, a banker, a lawyer, a mechanic, ect... you get the idea. Now our identity is not based on what we do but more accurately by who we are, Christians. With this new identity comes citizenship in the Kingdom of God, Heaven.

I have a question, what is it that the world tries to do with all the drugs, alcohol, workaholics, ect.? They are trying to fill the one yearning in their hearts that they cannot quite quench. They can't quench it because God, upon creation of man, made us in such a way that we have a yearning to know and have a relationship with Him. This yearning is what the world is trying to fill with all the "stuff" of this world. When we accept Christ and build that relationship with Him that yearning is quenched with the one and only "thing" that can quench it. I heard it said that we are created with a God shaped hole in our spirit and only God can fill it.

What have you been filling that hole with?
