The dryer

I am consolidating 3 different blogs into one location, this is an entry copied from one of those.  The events described here happened some time during November 2011.

Enjoy!

My wife was on Facebook the other day and noticed a post from a friend.  She was talking about not being able to keep up with laundry because her dryer wasn't working correctly.  Because I can usually fix stuff like that she mentions it to me and we went to bed.  The next morning we get up and are on the way out the door when my wife confirms what I have been thinking all morning...I need to go fix the dryer.

When I get to the dryer I hear a terrible noise coming from it.  I let it run for a few minutes, open the door to stop it and try to restart it...nothing.  This leads me to the conclusion that the motor in the unit will have to be replaced.  The parts for the dryer cost more than the dryer is worth (close to $270) and frankly the folks who own the dryer couldn't afford to replace it.

Now the events of the rest of the day are quite interesting.

A short back story needs to be told here.  I have been going to a men's Bible study night almost every week for about a year now.  Within this group there have been some very strong friendships made, more than a few prayers answered, marriages restored, and more than one healing happen before our eyes.

Back to the dryer.

On my way home from looking at this dryer I pass a gas station that is less than 2 blocks from my house.  At this gas station is one of the guys in my Bible study group so I turn around and stop to talk for a minute.  During the course of the conversation he tells me that he is not real sure how to get home from this gas station, he has never been to this part of town before.  He then asks me a very pointed question..."What have you been doing TODAY?"  I did not give this question much thought at the time, although I told him what I had been doing that morning.

At this point he tells me that he has a dryer that does still work but doesn't heat and that if I think I can fix it I am welcome to come get it.  Now, I drive a Toyota van and cannot get a full size dryer inside but I do have a utility trailer at the house.  Do you remember where this gas station is?  That's right, about 2 blocks from my house.  Remember, he doesn't know how to get home?  What did we do, run to my house, get my trailer, and lead him home.

I get the dryer on the trailer and go back by this ladies house, explain the happenings of the day, and let her know that I will be bringing her "new" dryer to her early the next week.  She begins to cry.  She lost her mom not long before this and turns out she has been having some major issues with one of her 5 kids as well.  She was beginning to get discouraged.  She explained that on her list of "important" things the dryer was near the bottom of the list but that this has renewed her hope and her faith.  She shared with me some details that I am not going to share here, but God showed her (and me) that he cares about even the things we see as small.

I took this "new" dryer home and fixed it for less than $20.00 and in less than 30 minutes, delivered it Monday afternoon.

In this chain of events I have found a God that IS concerned about our everyday lives, He DOES interact with us on a daily basis, and He WILL guide your every step if you will let Him, and He DOES keep each and every promise given in the Bible...IF we will open the door and get out of the way...how do we open that door...quit begging God to do something and do what he says....speak HIS WORD to your problems.

Read the Bible and believe it...never mind what you have been taught all your life, lay your old teaching aside and read your Bible again for the first time, this time ask God for His revelation of what He meant when He wrote it....I guarantee it won't be what you have been taught.   The Bible says He walks with us daily, It says He orders our steps, and gives us good gifts.  This family found out about the good gifts first hand, and I found out what it was like to have God order my steps through the day....it was truly AWESOME!!!
